Tough Guise

Tough Guise

Society is constructing violent masculinity as a culture norm. Men’s violent instincts are normally expressed in a socially approved way in the modern world. The pressure to be manly comes mostly from the media. Definition of manhood has been changing for worst and that’s where the community of people is getting the hyper violent main ideas from, being exposed to pop culture and gangster movies. What is that makes physically assaulting a human being even an option?

According to the dictionary, respect is supposed to be “a feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities or achievements.” In our contemporary society, you have to look mean or people won’t respect you. For example in sports, the only way to earn respect is disrespecting another person. This phenomenon is absolutely misunderstood, because that attitude is a fail to interpret who really deserves respect in this world.

Men should have the courage to face extreme danger and difficulty, without retreating, and have the power to perform physical demanding tasks. Men are more likely to be perceived as aggressive and competitive. Is this stereotype because of the cultural influence or biological condition? Do the hormones influence their behaviors and attitudes? Does culture determine this role?

Ladies and gentlemen are socialized to deal with their anger differently, aggression and violence is encouraged among young boys, while it’s not among young girls, who deal with their angry in a more subtle back handed way. Men cause about 95% of the cases of Domestic Violence, assaults or rapes.

Weaker males were pushed lower in society while the strong ones took more mates and more wealth. It wasn’t long before violence became entertainment. Why does society glorify violence? On television and movies you can see people killing easily as if to take a life away seems so natural. That’s wrong. Si why are men prone to violence? I believe this aggression comes from frustration of not achieving goals, plus the testosterone which predisposes men to aggression. Although it’s likely that increased levels of testosterone aggravate a tendency toward violence, that cannot be an excuse - not all men are naturally aggressive.
